Monday Mining: Jazzing up the Garden Space

We are getting ready to put in our garden in for the year.  Seeds are bought.  Space needs some work, but we still have snow on the ground here and are looking at temps in the 20s for the next 3-4 nights, so not starting anything crazy yet.

I thought it might be fun to play around with ideas for things we can create to jazz up the garden space for today's post.

This one caught my eye right off the bat as it is both functional and FUN!  Remembering that I have young grandsons who's primary goal in life is to get as dirty as possible, this would be GREAT!  You can head over to borganic for the how-tos!

Speaking of those boys, I can see this idea having multiple uses as well: first to water my garden and then moving it for the guys to run under!!

Lol, this one is adorable, but again, remember those boys?  Pretty sure I'd find this one heading down the driveway with a "vvrrrrrrrooooooooommmm....".  The how-to (more than just throwing dirt in a truck here!) can be found at House of Hawthornes.

Talking about recycling, I KNOW we have some of these laying around... doesn't everyone???  Find this idea and more over at Victorian House with Kitchen Garden.

It just so happens that hubby broke his shovel the other day (I know because we had a buy a shiny new one) so THIS would be a PERFECT use for that bugger!

This is a sweet plant marker idea from KatyHarper.com

Want to try your hand at metal punching?  I thought this was both cute and "green" - hop over to Pin and Paper to see exactly HOW to do this!

I ran across another idea that caught my eye over at Aunt Peaches (how can you NOT read on when the blog by line is: "Messy. Sparkly. More fun that a bag of Possums" - I mean REALLY!!)

The website for this great idea no long exists, but these are lovely.  According to the pin that took me there, you use E6000 glue to attach one to another.  I think I have some of those bowls!!

I could see this idea branching off in lots of directions, but for starters, here's a way to deck out your watering can from The Empress of Dirt.

Just looking at these fun ideas makes me want to get started... until I glance out at the space, still snowy in spots and know I have to wait just a wee bit this year.

Have a great day,
Carrie

Monday Mining: Let's think spring.. I BEG of YOU!!

I'm back to scouring the Internet for cool ideas for you all... and I thought thinking spring would be a GREAT way to jump in!

We are BEGGING for spring here in NH... we all love the change of seasons, but the 6 months of winter thing this year?  Done... I am sooo done!  Bring on the sunshine, flowers and warmer weather!

So... in honor of the idea I will sacrifice some time to bring you spring... or at least things that make me THINK of it!

If you have any others, add them to the Linky tool below - we'd ALL love to see them!

One of the plants that always makes me think of spring is the pussy willow.  Sometimes you can find them out and about, I also found them available on-line, at Nature Hills Nursery.
They are one of those plants who are able to peek their way out through what the weather here in NH brings!

Anyone else have a bit of mud... and lots of it?  Over at Our Neck of the Woods they came up with a GREAT way to deal with it!  Take a stroll over there and see how they made this!

How about these adorable snacks (and LOADS more ideas!!) over at Spoonful?

Are you a list checking sort of person?  Have some kiddos you need to entertain?  Zip over to Real Simple for 50 Fun Spring Activities!

I found another great list of ideas over at Grandparents.com - yup... I'm a memere, so I'll be checking THAT list!

Here's a sweet (as in adorable) idea for a table runner from Country Living.  I need to find some hankies!

Doing some scrapbooking?  Head over to DebbieHodge.com for some creative ideas to get you rolling.

Butterflies certainly speak of spring.  I never thought of tying together one of these paper globe shades and some colorful butterflies!  Well done, Martha!

Spring means planting.  My friend Amy had an idea like this a few weeks ago on her blog, but she used just newspaper (see here): These are done with paper and TP tubes for starting seeds!

I hope this gets you started thinking warm thoughts!

Speaking of warm thoughts... do you have an idea you'd like to share?  Add it to our Linky Tool below!

I'll share a paper banner I made for the front door tomorrow!  It's springy - I promise!

Happy creating,
Carrie

Find it for Free: Let's Hit the Garden!!

Good morning, all -

I'm thinking spring... I'm thinking gardening...let's do it!  Today's Friday, that means it's time to hit the Net and see what we can find free - the topic this week is gardening.  Shall we?

How about a lovely apron to hold our goodies when we are out (gasp...) weeding and such?  Linda at Craftaholics Anonymous has a pattern for a perfect one, here.   If you have a chance, take a peek at her craft tutorials - there are oodles!!  You might get lost!

I found these wonderful plant markers over at CraftJr Network.  They have simple directions and you can download the images to add to the gems - I was afraid if Ihad to draw them myself... might not look much like tomatoes...just saying...

Over at Ros Made Me, I found a pattern for a garden organizer bag.  She has clear directions with great images.  Take a peek!

From Primitive Blessings, I found a lovely pattern you can download.  You could use it for something decorative on wood or metal, on a card, or put the image on an apron! Lots of options.  She has LITERALLY hundreds of digital images on her website you can download and play with!  Check it out!

This next one is WAY outside my zone - but hey, maybe YOU'D like to learn more about it?  Its a stained glass dragonfly garden stake!  Looks gorgeous...

Here's a great idea (back to the sewing machine...) from Heather Ross.  She made these for Martha Stewart!  Seriously - how cool is that?

Do you know of other fun patterns we might like?  Pop a link in the comments below and we'll check it out.

Till tomorrow - enjoy your day!
Hugs,
Carrie

Wordless Wednesday: Re-potted some of the plants!

Good morning, all!
It's Wednesday - time to share a glimpse of that which is Whitt World.
The fight to bring spring to New Hampshire continues!  With a little help from hubby (his hands are at work) the squash have been given some breathing room.

Like my very technical transplanting tool?  Hey, it worked!

You can see a couple DIDN'T make the transition - that was BEFORE the fork!

Hope spring is making it's way to you!
Hugs,
Carrie

Wordless Wednesday: Seedling Update

Good morning, everyone!

It's Wordless Wednesday, a chance to share an image or two from my world with little to no explanation - just the image.  Time to sit back, relax and look at all we have.

Feel free to link to this posting with your own images - we'd love to see.

Today is a glimpse at the progress my seedlings are making.  Looking good so far!

Oh... and a shot of a icy, cold leg once about 1/2 gallon of sap hit it.  Lesson: take your time when lifting a 5 gallon bucket up off the ground to carry it...and it's full... just sayin'...

Keep up the good work, guys ... warmer weather WILL come!

Quilty hugs,
Carrie

Wordless Wednesday: The Promise of Spring

Good morning, all -

It's Wednesday, the day that I share an image from my world.  It would be very easy to post some snow shots as like the rest of most of New England, that silly groundhog was about as way off as a groundhog can get.  Today is the first day of spring and Mother Nature let us have it with both barrels yesterday with a foot of snow.  Silly Mother Nature.... we love you anyway...

With that in mind, I am looking to the promise of spring with today's images.  Let's think sunny, warm weather folks... you KNOW it's coming...sooner or later...

My High Mowing seeds!!

Seedlings dreaming of summer...
Have a wonderful day, everyone!  Feel free to leave me a note about YOUR wordless wonders.
Quilty hugs,
Carrie
